Tesla’s CEO Elon Musk has delivered several vehicles to new owners, including Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian. However, not everything is as Musk initially promised.
The Cybertruck comes in three configurations: rear-wheel drive, all-wheel drive, and the so-called Cyberbeast. The least expensive version of the Cybertruck will cost $60,990 (approximately PLN 243,800), which is over 50% more than the price Musk announced when introducing the vehicle in 2019.
The rear-wheel-drive version of the Cybertruck, with a range of 250 miles (402 km) on a single charge, will not be available until 2025. Initially, Tesla will offer deliveries of two more expensive models next year, including the Cyberbeast, which is priced at nearly $100,000 (almost PLN 400,000).
"It's significantly more expensive than I thought," said Gene Munster, managing partner at Deepwater Asset Management. "They need to ramp up production to bring the price down, and they know they won't be able to produce many next year. The reality is that the Cybertruck hasn't hit the market yet," he added.
The Cybertruck represents Tesla's first entry into the highly competitive pickup truck market in the U.S. The attempt to enter this segment has been met with excitement but also sharp criticism and doubts. One analyst suggested last week that the car manufacturer should abandon the Cybertruck altogether, as it is unlikely to be profitable. Meanwhile, Musk himself lamented how "extremely difficult" it is to bring this vehicle to market.
When Tesla started taking initial deposits for the Cybertruck in 2019, it offered starting prices ranging from $39,900 to $69,900 (from PLN 159,000 to PLN 279,000).
Musk said on Thursday that he is confident the Cybertruck will meet buyers' needs, whether they are looking for flashy features or practical utility. "The Cybertruck is a better truck than a truck, and at the same time, a better sports car than a sports car," Musk told the audience.
Cybertruck - Performance
The fastest Cybertruck can reach 60 mph (96 km/h) in 2.6 seconds, as quickly as a Porsche 911 Turbo S, but not as fast as the Tesla Model S Plaid.
Tesla claims it can tow up to 11,000 pounds (5 tons), more than the all-electric Ford F-150 Lightning and some gasoline-powered F-150 models. It also boasts a 17-inch ground clearance (43 cm), which is higher than all versions of the F-150 and the electric Rivian R1T.
However, the cheapest Cybertruck is thousands of dollars more expensive than the commercial electric F-150, which starts at $49,995 (almost PLN 200,000), with the base model available at retail starting from $54,995 (PLN 219,000).
